MEXICO'S OVERWATER BUNGALOWS
It just doesn't get more awesome than staying in a bungalow that is directly over the water. Overwater bungalows are not uncommon in some Pacific Islands such as Tahiti and Fiji. As a matter of fact, one of Carlos Fiesta's best travel memories was staying in an overwater bungalow on the spectacular island of Bora Bora. Mexico has finally thrown the sombrero into the ring with it's first overwater accommodations, and it is one spectacular experience.
Located on Mexico's central jungled coast south of Puerto Vallarta, the recently completed Hotelito Desconocido ("the little unknown hotel") is the first hotel in Mexico to offer overwater lodging. Fashion Mogul Marcello Murzilla wanted to create the ultimate "eco" resort and many travelers agree that he has succeeded with this intimate and secluded getaway.
Desconocido has a spectacular waterfront setting where over two dozen palafitos provide guests with a very unique experience, of which almost half stand on stilts directly over the calm lagoon waters facing the azure Pacific Ocean. These private bungalows each offer tall open ceilings, bamboo showers, hot water and wide open views of the sea.
Dining at the resort includes a full selection of traditional Mexican dishes, with an emphasis on fresh and local seafood and produce. A sunset cocktail on your own private deck is a great way to end the day and begin the evening.
Room selections include the three overwater Palafito Master Suites, the five overwater Palafito Regular Suites, or the five individual Palafito Rooms which are clustered in larger villas. The large La Pera bungalow is the nicest place to stay in the resort and is situated in the center of the estuary with wide open views of the ocean and sunsets.
